Hiroshige has depicted here a summer shower over Ohashi Atake. It is well known that Van Gogh imitated this print in his oil painting. The vertically long composition emphasizes the speed of the heavy rainfall. The boathouses and other houses of Atake loom in silhouette in the fog on the opposite bank. This leaves one with the impression of heavy precipitation. The raft on the river serves as a clever compositional focal point.

This rather fanciful composition seems to have appealed strongly to non-Japanese. It is well known that Van Gogh imitated this print in his oil painting. Hiroshige has depicted in close-up an unusual variety of plum tree, with stems and branches extending far into the distance to emphasize the magnificent sight. The light pink background symbolizes the light and warmth of spring.

This well-known design depicts a snow scene in the precinct of Sensoji, a popular temple commonly known as Kinryuzan, after the hill on which it was situated at AsaKusa, north of the city. Founded in 628, it houseda Kannon whose benevolence appealed to many followers. The view in this print is from the gate called Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate), the outer gate in extreme close-up, showing only the pillars and gigantic lantern right over the viewer's head -  one of Hiroshige's favourite compositional schemes.

This print, which is the finest in the series "Famous Places of Sixty-odd Provinces", shows a large whirlpool, foaming waves, and plovers in flight above. The "Sight of Awa no Naruto" in a set of three continuing sheets is another masterpiece by Hiroshige.

Two-thirds of the space in this design is occupied by the night sky, where a large round fireworlk and the long curving line of another firework make a symphony of light. Below are a crowed of spectators on Ryogoku bridge and numerous boathouses. This is a masterly depiction of a night when the citizens of Edo(Tokyo) bid farewell to the departing summer.

This print is a masterpiece snowscape print. The quietude that pervades the night is excellently captured. No traveler dares to set forth on a journey and those who have come outside have done so out of necessity. One can almost hear the villagers' footsteps in the snow.

In dramatic compositions of close-up views or in gentle distant views, Hiroshige presented the varied views and experiences that his beloved native city offered its residents. Interesting topographical features - rivers, bridges, hills temples - all showed different aspects depending on changing weather, time of day and the season of the year.
